State of the Watershed

A cornerstone initiative of the BRWA is the 2013 State of the Watershed Report. This publication is an assessment of current and historical conditions across the watershed, and determines how they match up against ideal conditions. This is done via the use of watershed health indicators.

What is an indicator? To efficiently assess the condition of the watershed, key health areas were identified: groundwater, surface water, lakes, landscape, water use, and aquatic ecosystems. For each of these health categories, a representative, measurable metric was chosen to act as the overall indicator of the state of that resource.

The report is organized as follows:

  • Overview and indicator methodology
  • Chapters for each sub-watershed
  • Summary report (separate publication)
